Sichuan Earthquake Relief

Our VP Wayne Graham was recently on the ground in Chengdu; the main staging city for relief efforts to the Sichuan earthquake victims.  Here's an abbreviated report he filed:

"Just back from visiting Chengdu, the largest city in the earthquake zone.  I found a school in need of supplies, people in need of food and tents, but most importantly, I found trustworthy people to connect with to distribute whatever we can gather.

One neat personal story was how my 9 year old son Matthew was moved to help the earthquake victims.  He wanted to give several hundred dollars of his life savings to purchase tents for some needy people, so we went to the bank and then went to the store to buy the tents.  He was so excited to be useful in this, and the amount that he gave up took him several years of his life to save.  He made a great sacrifice.  The photo above includes some of the people who received the tents.  The man in the center with the light colored shirt lost both his wife and daughter in the earthquake.  They had been living under makeshift cover, and now have tents to live in!

Our relief workers continue to serve under the most difficult of conditions - no running water, sleeping in tents, one meal a day, and constantly battling hot, humid or cold weather.

Sponsoring our workers costs approx. $25 / day.  Transportation to relief site is approx. $150.

Project costs to sponsor one aid worker for one  week:  $325 total.
