Holistic Sex Education (HSE) Initiative
Prior to 2004 there was no official sex education program or curriculum in China.
With the rise of HIV/AIDS in the country, the government and UNAIDS saw it important to educate the Chinese youth about sex and AIDS. This became the main driving force for the government to promote sex education. From the 2008 UNAIDS report, confirmed cases of HIV/AIDS among people between the ages of 19-39 is 650 000 and rising. The ratio of infection between the two genders is 1:1 meaning majority of transmission is mostly between heterosexual couples, not homosexuals and needle users as the government thought therefore, 91% of all transmission is from sexual intercourse.
Educators are seeing the need for sex education to be taught in the schools and schools are desperately looking for people to teach this topic specifically. There is a high need for training teachers and parents to know how to communicate with the youth about sex in a healthy way.
We have thus started a Holistic Sexual Education (HSE) iniative to address this looming issue, and will be providing teaching materials and training inside China to educators, teachers, young people and their parents.
We are looking for funders, teachers, administrators, to assist with this exciting initiative.
Program specification costs: $36,000 for 12 month cycle. Start-up funding of $15,000 procured.
